Here we're talking about Louis de Rouvroy, le duc de Saint-Simon (the duke of Saint-Simon, a place in northern France).  Louis de Rouvroy's father, Claude de Rouvroy, had been raised to the level of nobility in serving King Louis XIII.  As the next Duke of Saint-Simon, his son, Louis de Rouvroy, fell out of favor with Louis XIV when he opposed policies of the king that reduced the power of the nobles.  He later produced a famous set of memoirs about life at Versailles based on his own recollections as well as material from others who spent time at the royal court during Louis XIV's reign.
